Job Description

Role Profile:

  • This role is a full time UK based role and the successful individual must commit exclusively to the duties of this role and IRATA
  • To act as the focal point for all technical matters and to co-ordinate IRATA technical activities as moderator on technical issues being debated within the association and bring recommendations for resolution of these issues to the Executive Committee for decision, where relevant. Ensuring that technical updates are communicated to the Directors, Executive and Membership and that these are posted on the website for wider communication
  • To assist the Chairman of all the Association’s Committees particularly in respect of advising on all technical aspects, the co-ordination and production of agendas
  • To work in alliance and support to the General Manager and other staff as required
  • To be responsible for obtaining and maintaining all ISO accreditations within the Association with the support of consultants as and when required and budget permits
  • To recommend the timing and nature of revisions required to the technical documents of the association
  • To work with those charged with such matters as registration, direct entry and other administrative work that involves technical considerations, and assume sole responsibility for this work, when possible
  • To be the first recipient of technical enquiries from members and outside groups, and deal with these expeditiously, including having other action if the item required
  • To assist in the evaluation of the work of IRATA Assessors and to ensure their examination and other procedures are consistent
  • To manage the scope, theme and long-term planning of Assessors’ workshops in co-operation with the chairman of the Training Committee and the Executive Committee
  • To assist other officers of the association in connection with reports of bad practice or disciplinary matters of a technical nature
  • To attend Training Committee meetings, each Executive Committee in an observer/advisory capacity, and to attend other IRATA meetings as directed and approved by the Chairman or General Manager
  • To generally assist all officers, employees and members of the association on technical matters. These might include contributing to technical articles, attending non-IRATA conferences/meetings as requested, liaison with other work at height groups and associations, acting as IRATA’s representative on advisory bodies, etc
  • To be aware of relevant national, European and international standards in existence, in preparation and required, and to assist with the Association’s representation on and to each body
  • To be aware of the growth of industrial rope access and IRATA around the world and the repercussions this might have on technical issues, equipment and work standards
  • To support the association in compliance to relevant standards and certification
  • To manage and resolve complaints received by IRATA pertaining to individual technicians, companies, members, training centres and staff in accordance with existing processes
  • To report on incidents as and when they arise

Person Specification

Required Skills:

  • Proven effectiveness in developing products and services that might be applied in not for profit, Charitable and Member based businesses
  • Ability to act as an expert in Rope Access Techniques
  • Level 3 Technician as a minimum
  • Political and Industry lobbying
  • Commercial sense and knowledge of technical authoring
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong leader, motivator and team player
  • Confident, political nous, strategic thinker
  • Broad general management skills including finance, negotiations and contracts, Technical H&S and IR regulations
  • Specific expertise in one or more functions, such as construction operations, contracting, training and publications
  • Effective communicator both verbally and written
  • Ability to develop technical services for members
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter with a hunger for change
  • Highly driven
  • Ability to travel with no restrictions inside the EU
  • Ability to travel worldwide

    Experience:

Required

  • Proven success in working in a technical environment and negotiation or research including scientific research
  • Experienced manager within a small to medium sized business
  • Broad experience in general management, developed as a rope technician or manager in more than one business
  • Excellent understanding and good range of contacts within the rope access industry and associated forums
  • Knowledge of international regulations and initiatives with regard to rope access
  • Competent IT skills particularly in word applications and email

Preferable

  • Experience of authoring technical manuals and data sheets
  • Ability to commission testing of manufacturers’ equipment and writing up such test outcomes.
  • Presenting outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Detailed industry knowledge
