Purpose of the role

To act as the focal point for all training matters and to co-ordinate IRATA training activities as moderator on training issues being debated within the association. To bring recommendations for resolution of these issues to the Executive Committee, Sub-Committee Chairmen, and senior management for decision, where necessary. Ensuring that the Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS) and all related documentation are kept up to date and communicated to all members.  To ensure consistent high standards of assessment and appropriate application of TACS and IRATA code of practice through developing and delivering an Assessor audit programme.

  • Effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders.  Close liaison with General Manager / Directors / Executive Committee and the relevant 3rd party organisations to ensure they are fully versed and up to-date on all relevant training issues relating to industrial rope access

  • A sound understanding of the practical elements, available frameworks and tools that support good effective operational control.  Commercial awareness and understanding how economic, social, legal and political factors can affect members’ businesses and the association.


  • Ensure that the training resource available to executive management that support the association’s core activities remains current.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To work in alliance with and support the General Manager and other staff as required on all training matters related to Industrial Rope Access.
  • To recommend the timing and nature of revisions required to the training documents of the association, in particular TACS and supporting documents.
  • To identify training requirements within Industrial Rope Access and to develop and deliver required training to respond to these requirements.
  • To develop and deliver an Assessor Audit Programme to ensure assessments are delivered to a high standard consistently worldwide ultimately requiring periodic audits of all assessors.
  • Set agenda items, in conjunction with Committee Chairmen and senior management, provide supporting content and organise the training elements for vital Association meetings such as ITEC, Assessors workshops and other events.
  • Provide guidance for support staff with their response to enquiries from members and outside groups, including taking action if the item requires.
  • To assist other officers and committees of the association in connection with reports of bad practice or disciplinary matters related to Training.
  • To attend committee meetings (including ESC, Training and Testing and, on request, Exec) in an observer/advisory capacity and as required lead, present and organise training events, as directed by Senior/Executive Management.
  • To generally assist all officers, employees and members of the association on training matters. These might include contributing to technical articles, attending non-IRATA conferences/meetings as requested, liaison with other work at height groups and associations; acting as IRATA’s representative on advisory bodies, etc.
  • To be aware of relevant national, European and international standards in existence, and to assist with the Association’s representation on, and to, each body.
  • To be aware of the growth of industrial rope access and IRATA globally and the

          repercussions this might have on training issues, equipment and work standards.

  • Lead projects where authorised to do so by the General Manager, Sub-Committee Chairs or Executive Committee.

The Assistant Structural Inspection Manager will assist the Rail Manager in preparing for and scheduling inspections of rail and road structures. They will work on estimates for inspection projects, some involving several hundred structures.
They will also be required to gain an intimate knowledge of inspection work by undertaking an apprenticeship in inspection leading to a Network Rail STE4 certificate.
They will assist our ICT project managers in designing and implementing IT solutions in support of the department.

What you will bring:

Acuren has five (5) immediate openings for IRATA Certified Level 3 Rope Access Technicians to support our Sarnia office located at 396 South McGregor Side Road, Unit 1, Sarnia, Ontario N7T 7H5. The primary function of this role is for the management of the safety of crews engaged in rope access activities, work site organization specific to rope access jobs, and the leadership of rope crews engaged in projects supporting the performance of a broad range of technical and/or industrial services. Some of the responsibilities of this role is to provide oversight of rope work execution, support effective and sustain regional work programs and encourage compliance with an understanding of IRATA standards. 

These positions require Level 3 IRATA certification combined with a minimum of 3 years’ experience overseeing the delivery of rope access services in industrial environments.  Current first aid certification is also required.   The successful candidates will be required to have an understanding and knowledge of applicable application of rope access, comprehensive knowledge of theory, equipment and rigging, maneuvers, climbing and hauling, as well as comprehensive knowledge of advanced rescue techniques. Duties and Responsibilities:
The IRATA Certified Level 3 Rope Access Technician is responsible for:

  • Providing safety management, work site organization, and supervisory leadership and accountabilities to work crews on various projects.
  • Utilizing specialized knowledge of “Rope Access Technology” to execute projects from inception through to completion. These projects include:
    • High angle rope access industrial maintenance, repairs, mechanical rigging and installations
    • On site fall protection, high angle rescue and rescue training
    • Welding repairs in difficult to access locations 4G-6G
